Rich

Real Name:Rich

Position:Lead Guitar

Gear Used:Fender Stratocaster, Ibanez RSII Series, Marshall VS265 Valve Combo Amp, Boss GT-8 Multi-Effects Unit

Influences:Anything rock/puck/indie/metal. Brought up listening to Guns n’ Roses, but during my later teenage years, I thought it’d be cool to grow my hair long, get an attitude problem and listen to heavy/thrash metal! Having mellowed out (a bit) now I’m also influenced by a diverse range of bands such as AC/DC, Led Zep, Aerosmith, Blur, The Wildhearts, Arctic Monkeys, Sex Pistols, Oasis, The Killers, Foo Fighters, Green Day, The Offspring (early stuff) and many more. Also, a big ‘heads up’ to my Dad too as he’s the reason why I picked up the guitar in the first place.

Musical background:I first started playing guitar around the age of 10 when my hands were big enough to play a chord or two. A few years later I got my first electric guitar, the Ibanez I still use today, and started writing and recording songs with one of my oldest mates on an old Fostex 4 track! We started a band called Urban Misery (!) and although we only played a few gigs covering songs from artists such as G n’ R, Skunk Anansie and a few of our own numbers, we did record a 4 track CD at a studio in Southampton in 1995. The band stayed together through college and had various line-ups, but kind of fizzled out when we went our separate ways. It wasn’t until I finished university that I got the chance to play out live again, this time just me and a mate doing acoustic covers in a few local pubs. We did various songs from Coldplay, Bob Dylan, The Beatles, Stereophonics, Oasis and Blur but as good an experience as it was, I wanted to get back to playing some decent loud tunes…and my prayers have been answered by the awesome Shotgun Smile!
